This RYA PowerBoat Level 1 Course provides a practical introduction to power boat handing and safety in powerboats. Great for complete beginners, children or for updating those rusty skills! Can be integrated into the full PowerBoat Level 2 Course. 8-16 year-olds will receive an endorsed certificate, specifying use of powerboats only under supervision of a responsible adult. Not recommended for new or prospective boat-owners requiring skippering skills - See RYA PowerBoat Level 2.
a) Use of trailers and launchers b) Personal buoyancy & clothes c)Use of lines, fenders, warps, anchors et al. d) Prop angles and immersion depths e) Displacement handling f) Pre-start checks, controls and windage. g) Preparing warps, hooks, methods of approach, crew communications and making-fast.
h) Wind effects and tidal-stream / current approaches. i) Preparing lines for accepting a tow, inc trim and balance. j) Load and balance, inc effects on handling & performance. k) Local byelaws and insurance. l) Situational awareness & effect of wash. m) Application of IRPCS and understands Rules 5 & 6& conduct around commercial shipping.
A typical course or experience, will entail leaving our centre at Largs Yacht Haven and engaging in powerboating activities and training during the day.
